Dear Equitas Health Community,
I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the new Chair of the Equitas Health Board of Trustees. My name is Susan McManus (she/her), and it is with great pride and a deep sense of responsibility that I step into this role. As a long-time trustee and patient of Equitas Health, I am profoundly committed to our mission of providing affordable and affirming healthcare to the LGBTQ+ community, people living with HIV, and anyone in need of a welcoming healthcare home.
Equitas Health plays a crucial role in the healthcare landscape across Ohio and surrounding states. Our community faces significant challenges, from ongoing health disparities and barriers to care, to the social stigma and discrimination that many still endure. The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted these inequities, disproportionately affecting LGBTQ+ individuals and those living with HIV/AIDS. Additionally, legislative attacks on LGBTQ+ rights and healthcare access continue to threaten the well-being of our community members.
Despite these challenges, I am filled with hope and optimism for the future. Equitas Health is uniquely positioned to lead the way in addressing these issues thanks to our dedicated team, our comprehensive range of services, and our unwavering commitment to equity and inclusion. Together, we have the power to create meaningful change and to ensure that every person receives the compassionate, affirming care they deserve.
In my professional life, I bring over 30 years of experience as an insurance executive at a Fortune 100 company, with a focus on board governance, strategic leadership, and advocacy. My previous roles, including serving as the Board President of the North American Pet Health Insurance Association and as the national co-chair of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Business Council, have prepared me well for this new horizon with Equitas Health.
As Board Chair, my approach will be rooted in transparency, accountability, and collaboration. I believe in fostering an environment where open communication is encouraged, diverse perspectives are valued, and decisions are made collectively with the best interests of Equitas Health and the communities we serve at heart. The fundamental responsibilities of the Board are safeguarding our mission, setting strategic direction, ensuring financial stewardship, and advocating for our patients. As Board Chair, I will work tirelessly to advance our mission and to ensure that Equitas Health remains a beacon of hope and support for all those we serve.
Working closely with our new CEO, David Ernesto Munar, and our exceptional team, I am committed to guiding Equitas Health toward continued growth, financial strength, and success. Our focus will remain on expanding access to gender-affirming healthcare, enhancing services for people living with HIV/AIDS, and addressing systemic barriers that perpetuate health disparities in underserved communities.
I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve as Board Chair and to work in pursuit of our shared goals. I am confident we can navigate the challenges ahead and seize the opportunities before us, creating a brighter, healthier future for our community.
I look forward to contributing to the continued success of Equitas Health with all of you.
In health,
Susan McManus
