What you need to know before GETTING DoxyPEP

DoxyPEP helps you prevent STIs.

Doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (DoxyPEP) means taking the antibiotic doxycycline after sex without a condom (bareback sex) to help prevent sexually transmitted infections (STI). Think of it as a morning-after pill for STIs.

DoxyPEP lowers your risk of getting:

• Chlamydia
• Gonorrhea
• Syphilis

DoxyPEP does NOT prevent:

• HIV
• Mpox
• Other viral infections

Do you need DoxyPEP?

You might think about getting DoxyPEP if you have had:

• Chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis in the last 12 months
• Sex without a condom with at least one person in the last 12 months. This includes oral, anal, or vaginal/front-hole sex.

Things to know about DoxyPEP

• It is safe to take PrEP for HIV and DoxyPEP at the same time.
• Doxycycline has been used to treat chlamydia and syphilis for decades.
• Doxycycline is affordable, safe, and has mild side effects.

What you need to know before TAKING DoxyPEP

Taking DoxyPEP is as easy as 3, 2, 1!

1. Take it within 3 days – or 72 hours – of sex without a condom.
2. Take 2 tablets – or 200 mg – of doxycycline.
3. Take it 1 time – or no more than one dose per day.

DoxyPEP DOs

• DO act fast. DoxyPEP works best if you take it within the first 24 hours after sex without a condom.
• DO take with food and water. DoxyPEP may cause diarrhea, upset stomach, and loss of appetite.
• DO wear sunscreen! You might sunburn more easily while taking DoxyPEP.

DoxyPEP DON’Ts

• DON’T take more than 200 mg in one day
• DON’T eat or drink dairy products.
• DON’T take calcium, antacids, or multivitamins 4 hours before AND 4 hours after taking it.

More DoxyPEP Dos

• DO get tested for STIs every 3 months or sooner if you have symptoms.
• DO get tested if you have sex with someone who has a STI.
• DO keep taking your HIV meds and make regular visits to your healthcare provider.
