What’s New for Mozaic in 2026

Equitas Health is excited to share an important update about the future of the Mozaic program.

Beginning December 15, Mozaic will join the External Affairs team of Equitas Health. We designed this realignment to strengthen grassroots advocacy and expand access to care for transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive people across Central Ohio while prioritizing the needs of gender-expansive people of color.

Is Equitas Health eliminating/dismantling/dissolving Mozaic?
No. Equitas Health is intentionally and purposefully connecting the Mozaic program to External Affairs. With a strong track record of success, the External Affairs team will help Mozaic reach more people and deepen its impact in the community.

Did anyone consult Mozaic and transgender leaders before making this decision?
Yes. Transgender leaders, including transgender leaders of color, at Equitas Health proposed and developed this idea. As part of this, transgender leaders held an intention, multi-day planning session, and Mozaic’s leadership team actively participated in the strategic planning and decision-making process

Why did Mozaic have to change?
In this social and political climate, transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive people need programs like Mozaic more than ever. The community needs Mozaic to commit to fighting for their rights, and by realigning to focus on grassroots advocacy, that’s exactly what Mozaic will be doing.

What will Mozaic’s new role look like?
As part of External Affairs, they will more actively fight for access to care for the gender expansive community, while also complementing the public policy and legislative affairs work that the agency is already doing. On the first day in the division, Mozaic began helping to combat two federal anti-trans bills (HR 498 and HR 3492).

What is the new mission for Mozaic?
Mozaic’s mission: “Our mission is to increase access to care for transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive people across Central Ohio, while prioritizing the needs of gender expansive people of color.”

What is happening to the existing program space at Equitas Health King-Lincoln?
The existing program space will undergo a transition from late December to mid-January. Community members will still have access to the space during this time. After mid-January, the program space will ‘re-open’ with a multi-use, modular layout that can host community engagement programs and events for Mozaic, Brothers in Unity, the OHIV Hotline, BRAVO, and others. This will help increase access to safer spaces across all Equitas Health programs.

Who is leading Mozaic now?
J Harley (he/him) remains the program manager for Mozaic. Effective December 15, he will report to Dr. Rhea Debussy (she/her), director of External Affairs.
