Ohio AIDS Coalition to Co-Host Ohio Conference on HIV/AIDS

(Columbus, Ohio) – On Monday, December 1st 2014 the Ohio AIDS Coalition (OAC) will co-host the Ohio Conference on HIV/AIDS at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Columbus (350 N High St, Columbus, OH 43215) in collaboration with:


  • The AIDS Education and Training Center OSU Local Performance Site
  • Columbus Public Health
  • Ohio Department of Health


The conference will feature national and statewide speakers, including John Peller, President & CEO of AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Bill Hardy, President & CEO of AIDS Resource Center Ohio and Patrick Beatty, Chief Public Policy & Government Affairs Officer of AIDS Resource Center Ohio, Director of the Ohio AIDS Coalition. Quilt panels from The AIDS Memorial Quilt will also be on display.
The Ohio Conference on HIV/AIDS creates an opportunity for increased HIV education and awareness for both consumers and professionals, provides an open space for networking, and the chance for professionals to earn continuing education credits.
Conference participants will include community activists, social workers, health care providers, mental health professionals and other HIV prevention and care professionals, as well as people living with HIV/AIDS. The Ohio Conference on HIV/AIDS will offer education and training opportunities ranging from beginning-to-advanced levels of knowledge and skills. Topics include:


  • The Affordable Care Act
  • Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)
  • HIV and mental health,
  • Sexually-transmissible infections and HIV co-infection,
  • General HIV education, and
  • Advocacy


OAC and the National Quality Center (NQC) will host a special pre-conference program on November 30th, from 3-6pm for people living with HIV/AIDS who wish to attend the Ohio Conference on HIV/AIDS. We will be welcoming 50 HIV positive Ohioans who are currently involved in some leadership capacity in their own community. Aside from networking opportunities, this program will provide additional leadership development and involvement in community planning. Acceptance into the preconference program secures registration at the following day’s Ohio Conference on HIV/AIDS.

About the Ohio AIDS Coalition (OAC)
The Ohio AIDS Coalition (OAC) is a division of AIDS Resource Center Ohio (ARC Ohio) providing education, leadership training, advocacy, and support for Ohio’s HIV/AIDS community. The Coalition will function as a statewide network, carrying on activities that local groups are unable to perform and are best served on a statewide level, including but not limited to Healing Events, Publications, Leadership Training, and Advocacy. The Coalition shall consult with policy makers to prevent discrimination against persons with HIV/AIDS disease and to obtain support for HIV/AIDS disease education, research and quality services.
