Equitas Health Statement on Ohio’s Six-Week Abortion Ban
April 11, 2019
COLUMBUS, OH –At Equitas Health, we champion the ability of our patients – and all people – to decide what is best for their bodies and to decide for themselves what path their lives may take. This basic right should not be criminalized, but that is exactly what Ohio’s General Assembly has done with its recent passage of the six-week abortion ban, Senate Bill 23.
Despite supporters’ claims, bans like Senate Bill 23 will never decrease, nor have they ever decreased, the need for abortions. Instead, they criminalize physicians providing medical care and force people into dangerous, sometimes life-threatening situations.
Equitas Health believes that all people have a right to bodily autonomy and to self-determination, particularly when it comes to making personal medical decisions. The choice to seek an abortion is a deeply personal and difficult one and it is one that should remain between patients and their doctors.
Equitas Health aims to provide a gateway to good health for all of our patients and we will remain vigilant in our efforts to protect everyone’s rights to control their medical and bodily decisions.
