PrEP/PEP

Fighting HIV has been at the center of Equitas Health’s mission since the beginning. As the disease has spread, our fight has adapted.

As our patient, we’ll explore together the various HIV prevention options you have and create an individualized treatment plan. These days, that means including PrEP and PEP — two promising new prevention tools that can help prevent HIV.

PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis, is a once-daily medication used for the prevention of HIV before exposure occurs. To learn more about PrEP, visit ohioprep.org.

At Equitas Health, some of the services we offer alongside your PrEP treatment include:

  • Risk reduction counseling including offering you condoms and lube
  • Prescription of a once-daily medication to prevent the transmission of HIV
  • Screenings and treatment for sexually transmitted infections
  • Visits with your medical provider once every three months for lab work, monitoring and medication refills
  • Integrated primary care if needed
  • Linkage to pharmacy and financial counseling staff to address issues with medication access and adherence

PEP, or post-exposure prophylaxis, is an emergency-based treatment for the prevention of HIV after exposure has occurred. If you think you’ve been exposed to HIV within the past 72 hours, you should start PEP today. Call us right away and we’ll get you scheduled immediately.

Some of the services we offer alongside PEP treatment include:

  • Same-day PEP visit scheduling — to be successful, you should initiate post exposure prophylaxis within 72 hours of exposure
  • Lab monitoring and provider support during PEP initiation
  • Follow-up HIV screenings as recommended by medical provider
  • After completion of PEP drug regimen (approximately 1 month long), provider will discuss other prevention items, like, PrEP
  • Screenings and treatment for sexually transmitted infections
  • Integrated primary care if needed
  • Access to mental health therapy program to address issues such as relationship violence or sexual assault
  • Linkage to pharmacy and financial counseling staff to address issues with medication access or adherence
