Empowering HIV Positive Youth to Advocate
For Themselves and Their Community
The 11th annual Positive Youth Leadership Summit, hosted by The Ohio AIDS Coalition and Equitas Health, will take place March 16-19, 2017 in Columbus, OH. This year’s conference has expanded to include HIV-positive youth from the Midwest. The summit is organized to prepare and empower the leaders of tomorrow to effectively advocate for themselves and their communities.
HIV-positive young adults face a unique combination of issues related to their age and HIV status. Some of these challenges include HIV outreach efforts that don’t account for experiences from HIV-positive youth, lack of access to care and social services, time since diagnosis, and other social determinants to health such as where they live, and family history. This summit aims to create a safe space to foster discussions and to develop action plans that HIV-positive youth can implement in their own lives and in their communities.
